Clinical Course and Treatment of Human Brucellosis in a Sample of Hospitalized Cases in Albania

Abstract Brucellosis remains a public health problem in many Mediterranean countries. In this work are presenting data of human brucellosis clinics and treatment sample hospitalized patients. Methods: All patient charts at regional hospital Gjirokastra, Albania were systematically reviewed, during the period 2016-2021. patients with laboratory confirmed diagnoses included study. Variables interest clinical symptoms, course provided. Sub-acute was defined as persistence 3-12 months while cases symptoms persisting for ≥12 chronic brucellosis. Results: 79% 86 male residing rural areas. Fever, profuse sweating arthralgia most common signs. Around 70% showed all these three symptoms. Despite systematic tendency more frequent presence high fever, increased on younger we could not find statistically significant differences among demographic categories. 18.6% presented signs after least 3 from moment diagnoses. Almost 7% classified cases. 75.6% treated combination doxycycline ceftriaxone antibiotic regime. Conclusions: The massive use cephalosporin cannot be justified may reflect larger related to population awareness provider attitudes concerning Albania. results study assist future interventions improve case management hospitals or primary care level well national measures scale control disease.
